Meet the designer
My mission: make you wear your pearls every day, highlighting that touch of confidence and elegance which is your signature.
A PASSION for FLOWERS and PEARLS.
From the French Caribbean to the High North, Canada, I am a jeweler and a travelling bird.
I studied jewelry at École de Joaillerie de Montréal, then created JazzDesigner Jewelry in 2014, with the mission of having you wearing your pearls every day, to highlight that touch of confidence and elegance, which is YOUR signature.
I offer you jewelry mostly highlighted with pearls and colorful fine gems, all set in silver and/or gold.
Why pearls?
Pearls are usually perceived as fragile, soft and very delicate. No doubt you have to be careful when you store them or when you use perfume. You can't wear them at the pool, or under the shower... Technically you shouldn't wear any precious metal jewelry at the pool, when doing sports or while cleaning.
But pearls should be considered stronger than they seem. Think about it.
Pearl (noun, feminine):
Natural Pearls form when an irritant - usually a parasite and not the proverbial grain of sand - works its way into an oyster, mussel, or clam. As a defense mechanism, a fluid is used to coat the irritant. Layer upon layer of this coating, called 'nacre', is deposited until a lustrous pearl is formed. (Joanie Beausejour, gemologist, FGA)
Wearing a jewel is, in a way, affirming one's personality and inner strength.
It is also to be impregnated with the perfect alchemy that makes it up.
Wearing pearls is a way to enjoy their softness and strength.
The ultimate touch to keep your confidence and elegance all day long.
What about inspiration?
Having grown up in the Caribbean and lived in Europe, before settling in Canada, my jewelry reflects my love of nature, especially flowers. I do not claim to reproduce their perfection but to be inspired by them to shape the metal and translate my imagination in terms of colors, shapes and textures.
What does a day in the studio look like?
My workshop routine starts with music: jazz, Blues, etc. I love listening to that music when I work at my bench. It supplements my inspiration, and that's where my company and some of my collections got their names.
A day at the studio often, if not always, starts by cleaning pieces (filing, and pre-polishing using a different grade of abrasive paper) before the polishing itself.
It's like a muscle warm-up, a routine that allows me to focus little by little on the pieces I have in hand.
Then I move through the day with more complex tasks requiring focus: starting new pieces, soldering, stone setting etc.
What drives me?
'' ... there is virtually no end to the permutations of form and concept that jewelry can offer.'' -
(Elizabeth Olver - Jewelry Design - The artisan's reference)I copied the French version of that quote from Elizabeth Olver (an established jeweler artist whose own works are sold in Harrods, Saks Fifth Avenue and other famous shops and galleries) on a card at the very beginning of my jewelry journey. It's hung on the wall of my studio, ever since; as the essence of it sticks with me.
